Jackie To Leave Brookside

BROOKSIDE'S Sue Jenkins, who plays battered wife Jackie Corkhill, is to quit the soap this October.

It follows the announcement by Claire Sweeney that she is taking a break from Brookside Close to front all-action TV show Challenge of a Lifetime.

Now the programme's scriptwriters have decided both Lindsey Corkhill and her mum should move away from the area together.

Viewers will see Jackie's relationship with husband Jimmy continue to go downhill from now until Sue finishes filming six weeks before her departure.

But bosses are adamant she will not be killed off.

Paul Marquess, series producer, last night said: "Both Claire Sweeney and Sue Jenkins are taking a break from Brookside.

"We have no intention of killing their characters off and will keep them alive off-screen while Claire and Sue are away.

"At some time in the future, we hope to see the Corkhills reunited."
